late 2004 and early 2005 brought more rain, in frequency and quantity, to santo antao, than there has been for many years. the difference was extremely noticable on the dry western side of the island, where the high plateau between sul and tarrafal, as well as the slopes around tarrafal, even down to the beach, were greener than many locals had ever seen them. the contrast between the bizarre and beautiful plants and the inhospital looking locations in which they were able to grow after these rains inspired me to make a series of photos. with the exception of wild spinach, the species are unknown to me, and i would appreciate any help in identifying them. |
